Launching Our Summer Reading Program!

As the school year winds down and summer approaches, our school is proud to launch a new initiative to keep young minds engaged, inspired, and learning all summer long—our Summer Reading Program!
This year’s program is designed for all primary learners, from our youngest readers to our upper-grade students in Grades 4–6. It’s a joyful blend of African stories, cultural connections, reading practice, poetry, and community support.
Why a Summer Reading Program?
We know that when children stop reading during school breaks, they often return with lower skills. Our goal is to prevent that “summer slide” and instead create a summer of growth, curiosity, and confidence. Through storytelling, comprehension, and reflection, students not only improve their academic skills—they learn more about themselves and their world.
Books That Reflect Us
Our book list includes beautiful, relatable stories rooted in African tradition, values, and imagination.
Each child will keep a reading log, complete comprehension exercises, and engage with poems based on the stories they read.
Learning with the Community
What makes this year extra special is our community involvement. On selected days, volunteers from organizations, local colleges, and community groups will visit our school to read with the children, share experiences, and model a love for reading. These role models help our students dream bigger and see the value of reading beyond the classroom.
Celebrating Success
At the end of the program, we’ll hold a Reading Celebration Day, where students will:
🎤 Recite poems inspired by their reading
📜 Receive certificates of participation
🍪 Enjoy light refreshments with classmates and families
It will be a joyful recognition of the children’s hard work and the power of reading to change lives.
